Capacity & Readiness Assessment is frequently the most overlooked stage in implementation. The tendency, often because of time and financial constraints, is to move directly from selection of an intervention to implementation. However, evidence from the implementation science, public health, and quality improvement literature confirms that this rarely works (Burnett et al., 2010; Garside, 1998; Jennett et al., 2003; Madsen et al., 2005). Taking the time for a comprehensive Capacity & Readiness Assessment will usually save time later and reap the rewards of a much more effective and efficient implementation.
