The last stage determines the real impact of the participatory research effort. Critical issues related to sustainability include the following:

  • On-going monitoring and feedback to ensure sufficient fidelity to the intended intervention and the prevention of drift;
  • Successfully addressing staff turnover; and
  • Maintaining supportive governance and funding.

Innovation refers to the recognition that external environments and the local ecology are continuously changing, and on-going adaptation and improvement of any intervention is necessary.
