Section 1 – Overview of Intervention Implementation Workbook

The Innovative Models Promoting Access-to-Care Transformation (IMPACT) initiative was a five-year research program that was designed to build upon partnerships, programs, and research to co-create models of care and local interventions to enhance access for vulnerable populations. Local Innovative Partnerships (LIPs) in three sites in Canada and three sites in Australia provided the foundation for these collaborative activities. See Appendix A for more information on the IMPACT program and the six interventions.

This workbook was originally developed in 2015 to provide IMPACT LIPs with an overview of current thinking about implementation, some core principles, and specific checklists to help implement, improve, and sustain locally designed interventions for improving access to care for vulnerable population(s).  As we applied the guide, we learned a great deal about what works and what doesn’t when implementing community-based participatory intervention research, and those lessons have been added to this version of the guide.

We recognize that each intervention is unique based on the context within which it exists and the relationships that form to move the work forward. People involved in implementing interventions are encouraged to continuously learn from what works and what does not as well as from experiences of others to make timely adaptations to ensure that interventions remain responsive to community needs and resources.

We encourage users of this guide to continue to seek new information from the rapidly advancing field of implementation science. We hope that this guide will continue to evolve as it is applied to broader contexts and encourage users to contact us with suggestions and to let us know how they are using the guide in their practice.
