Overview
This first project focuses on reading and writing a personal narrative about a belief that matters to you. You will be asked to read and annotate two personal narratives. These are true personal stories in which the authors each describe a personal belief or value.
After annotating two pieces, you will learn how to plan and develop your own narrative about a personal value or belief.
To prepare for this project, watch the video “The Power of Personal Story.” In this video, Ian Esquibel explains that sharing our personal stories can help others see the beauty of our lessons and our scars. Think about Ian Esquibel’s ideas as you review this module’s resources and as you begin to plan your own narrative: What lesson will you teach others through your story?
Next, complete the following:
- Read the This I Believe Essay instructions.
- Read the chapter on Getting Started with Texts
- Read the chapter on Narrative Writing
- Read the chapter on Paragraphs and Paragraph Structure
Then, move forward to begin the project.
