This year’s collection is dedicated to two of our exceptional colleagues, Dr. Pauline Uchmanowicz (1957-2019), who should be honored posthumously for her perfectionist editing, innovative teaching, and inspired poetry, and Dr. Jan Zlotnik Schmidt, who founded the Composition Program and is now a retired distinguished professor emerita after an impressive 30 years of teaching and service on our campus.

Both of these incredible women directed our First-year and Creative Writing Programs, worked on writing across disciplines initiatives, were members of the University Writing Board, and more. They mentored numerous students, writers, graduate teaching assistants, and scholars. They hosted phenomenal authors on our campus including Billy Collins, Tobias Wolff,  Patricia Smith, Ocean Vuong to name a few!

We owe so much to their tireless work, and for their indispensable contributions to our graduate and undergraduate English, Creative Writing, and General Education programs.
