Unit 3 Synthesis

Below are a few of the artifacts that students in Shaheen’s class at ISU created to synthesize what they learned in this unit.

In the corners of our thoughts, biases reside,

Implicit whispers shaping how we decide.

Unseen, yet potent, they quietly sway,

Coloring perceptions day-by-day.

Ableism lurks, its presence stark and clear,

Imposing barriers with every sneer.

Inaccessible spaces, attitudes unkind,

Limiting possibilities for the mind.

Intersectionality, a complex dance,

Where identities intersect, enhance.

Threads of race, gender, ability weave,

Creating a tapestry where all can believe.

Implicit Bias:

Hidden biases affect choices, even without us realizing

They influence different parts of life.

Ableism:

Discrimination against disabilities.

It creates barriers and unfairness.

Intersectionality:

Different parts of who we are mix and affect each other.

People face unique unfair treatment based on their mix of characteristics.

It shows how things are connected and complicated.
