Where do you find information and inspiration for making use of technology-enhanced learning?

Published scholarly accounts of technology in use in learning can be found in higher education journals and repositories related to TEL; technology journals; journals on teaching in a particular discipline; or in government or institutional reports.

Conduct a database search to locate scholarly articles that might shed light on the teaching challenge you are investigating.

The reading that you have done in as part of your work in UNHE500 and UNHE501 is a great foundation for this work, but we urge you to extend what you read into the new areas of SoTEL. Choose literature that most interests you and that helps you explore the theoretical and design decisions that you need to make in this unit. In the work for your assignments in this unit, we expect you to consult and cite SoTEL literature which goes beyond the theorists that you have used so far.

Portfolio activity:

  • From your database search or other sources, identify published accounts about technology-enhanced learning, particularly accounts of technology in use in classroom situations. Put the titles and bibliographic details of at least 5 articles useful for your teaching challenge into your learning design portfolio.

The researchers Adrian Kirkwood and Linda Price from the UK Open University have provided several provocative overviews of SoTEL. This reading may help you critically evaluate the technology use in your Assignment 1 article.

As you read: Look through the article and consider the authors’ arguments. Does the account you are summarising for Assignment 1 have any of the features they describe?

Glossary: ‘TPACK’ is an important concept in the scholarship of technology-enhanced learning. You will see a definition in our SoTEL glossary in the LEO site. Please add other terms as you come across them in your SoTEL reading. Add a definition, or ask for one!

This reading is, as far as we know, the first time that the idea of ‘SoTEL’ is discussed.
