PART V: Cognition and Digital Media
Technology is increasingly embedded in all aspects of our lives, whether school, work, or leisure time. Indeed, technology blurs the lines between school, work, and leisure time, such that we use social media in the workplace, games in schools, and both when we are “off duty” as well. Understanding the cognitive consequences of our digital immersion is paramount and here student-authors help us understand two things about this. In Chapter 10 student-authors help us understand that there is no such thing as a mindless scroll, and discuss how being more mindful can potentially offer us some relief from social media inundation effects on our thinking. In Chapter 11, student authors make a bold claim supported by the research: video game-play strategies, when applied to scholastics, can help students “up their game” in the classroom. What great news!
