Irregulars verbs in the present tense

What Are Irregular Verbs?

Irregular verbs are simply verbs that don’t follow the normal rules of conjugation.

For example, regular verbs ending in er all change their endings the same way when conjugated. Regular ir and re verbs follow their own sets of rules as well.

Irregular verbs don’t follow these normal rules of conjugation and must be learned individually.

Here is a trick to memorise irregular verbs. Learn the je, vous et ils forms. Why ? Simply, because

  1. je, tu, il, elle et on form sound the same. Look at the list of irregular verbs below and you will notice this for most of the irregular verbs.

➤  vouloir  > je veux, tu veux, il veut, elle veut, on veut

  1. Once you know the vous form you can figure out the nous, by simpply dropping the ending -ez for vous and replace it with the -ons and thus giving you the nous form

➤ vous voulez  >  voulez  >  nous voulons

3. ils and elles are the same.

➤ ils veulent, elles veulent
