Verb «Faire» and expressions

Faire is one of the most commonly used verbs in the language. The two main meanings of faire are “to make” and “to do”.

 

There are 3 general usages of the verb faire.

  1. To make or to do something

☞ Je fais un gâteau.  I am making a cake.

  1. To indicate certain activities such as: sports, shopping, or doing chores

☞  Je fais du judo.   I do judo.

 Je fais les courses ici.    I do the grocery shopping here.

☞ Il fait la vaisselle.   He does the dishes.

  1. To describe the weather

Il fait chaud aujourd’hui.   It is hot today.
