Margaretha died when her youngest known child, Heinrich “Henry” Meÿer (Born 24 AUG 1824 in Wenkeloh), was nine years old.

Another possible candidate for records of Margretha’s death and burial was a Margretha Meÿer, wife of Joh. Meÿer of Holvekie, who died 1 May 1788 at the age 41 and was buried at Scheeßel on 4 May 1788. However, Wenkeloh is where most of the records have Margretha living. Also as noted in the birth/baptism record of Margaretha Tambke, Margaretha’s father was Hinr.(Hinrich) Tambke.

2. The maiden name of Margretha is spelled variously as Tambcke, Tambcken, Tamble, Teeibcke and Tambke. Much of this variation is probably from the difficulties of transcribing the church record scripts..

Heinrich “Henry” Meÿer settled in the Farrar area but died of pneumonia in 1871. His son Henry was living with the Peter Meier family in the 1880 census[2].

Catharina Margretha Meÿer

A Catharina Margretha Meÿer was found in the records as a possible daughter of Johann Meÿer and Margretha Tambke.

However, this person does not appear to be a daughter for two reasons. The first name of the mother is Gesche in both the birth and death record of Catharina while for all of the other children the mother’s first name is Margaretha. More importantly, this Catharina was born only two months after the first son, Jochen Meÿer.

There is also a Gesche (Tambke) Meÿer in the Scheeßel church records who married a Johann Meÿer and was born about 1765 and died 11 Apr 1819. This Gesche would have been 40 years old when Catharina was born in 1805.
