Berend Grobrügge Birth

The Gen_Pluswin OFB Sittensen Database entrystates that Berend Grobrüggewas born in Wohldorf and baptised on 6 Jun 1754 in Scheeßel.And, the Dörps-Chronik Bartelsdorf, page 369, has that he was born at Wolsdorf farm No. 18 and gives his baptism as 6 Jun 1754 in Scheeßel

Both are consistent with his death/burial record which calculates that Berend Grobrügge was born about 1755.

The Ancestry Elbe-Weser Triangle, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, 1574-1945 database does not include records for the years 1753-1758. So, noScheeßel parish birth/baptism record could be found for 1754.

The transcription in the Ancestry Elbe-Weser Triangle, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, 1574-1945 database entry is wrong. The record says “der Anna geb. Heitmanns Ehemann Berend Grobrügge” which means “Anna nee Heitmann’s husband Berend Grobrügge”. So, this a record of Berend Grobrügge’s death and burial[4]

The Gen_Pluswin OFB Sittensendatabaseentry states that Berend Grobrügge died on 21 Mar 1812 in Wohldorf and was buried on 23 Mar 1812 in Scheeßel. And, the Dörps-Chronik Bartelsdorf, page 369, gives 21 Mar 1812 as the death date in Bartelsdorf for Berend Grobrügge.

According to the marriage record and Maria Grobrügge and Joachim Gerken, Maria’s father was the “Late Berend Grobrügge”. The above death date is consistent with Berend Grobrügge having died before Maria Grobrügge and Joachim Gerken were married on 1 Nov 1816.

The Elbe-Weser Triangle database transcriptions are a bit garbled and should read Name: Maria Grobrügge, Spouse: Berend Grobrügge.

Discussion

From the Scheeßel parish marriage record of Joachim Gerken and Maria Grobrügge, it is known that Maria was the virgin, 2nd daughter of the late Berend Grobrügge cultivator in Bartelsdorf. So there should be one daughter who is older than Maria. However, according to the Dörps-ChronikBartelsdorf there were two daughters older than Maria. Possibly only the living daughters are counted. Since one daughter had died 14 years earlier, she may not have been known to the pastor/clerk who prepared this marriage record and was not included in the count.
