ADA friendly – when ADA friendly is utilized in a description of a product, this means that some products, platforms, and materials may at times meet ADA compliance, but it is not verified or checked by the organization. It may also mean that they are working in the direction towards ADA compliance but have not made it a priority.
Audio Descriptions – a form of narration used to provide information surrounding key visual elements in a media work for the benefit of blind and visually impaired consumers.[1]
Braille Keyboard – a special input device that allows the user to type and enter text or instructions for the computer in Braille.[2]
Digital Courseware – the electronic learning content used in online learning or elearning. Built as a software, digital courseware works as a standalone or is delivered via learning management system (LMS).[3]
HTML – short for HyperText Markup Language, the authoring language used to create documents on the World Wide Web.[4]
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) – any piece of technology, device or software used by the general public.[5]
Open Access Textbooks – a textbook licensed under an open copyright license, and made available online to be freely used by students, teachers and members of the public.[6]
Optical Character Recognition – the electronic technology that recognizes text within a digital image. Optical Character Recognition allows assistive technology such as screen readers and text to speech software read a document.[7]
Screen Reader – a form of assistive technology that renders text and image content as synthesized speech or Braille output.[8]
SRT File – contains subtitle information, which includes the sequential number of subtitles, start and end timecode, subtitle text.[9]
Tagged – tagging a document provides added information to the text, which allows it to be conveyed to a non-sighted user through the use of assistive technology.[10]
VPAT – (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) is a table containing information regarding how an information and communications technology product or service conforms with Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.[11]
