What Does It Mean to Be a Chaplain?

When I tell people I’m a hospital chaplain, they say, “Who do you talk to–everyone or just the people who call you?” Or they tell me stories of the one time that a chaplain helped them or that no chaplain came. Or they assume I’m a volunteer or that I’m an evangelist or that I’m a priest.

And so I start to explain what we do and who we are.
