Ok. As your Intee avatar now, I’d like you to imagine you are meeting and assessing candidates. Wouldn’t it be joyous if they:

  • knew a lot about your enterprise
  • had done a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats analysis of it (SWOT)
  • and maybe a PESTLE too…  especially for public sector jobs (Political, Economical, Social, Technological, Legal, Environmental)

What you research will depend on the sector you’re in. A care sector enterprise for example, may be influenced by legal changes to a far greater degree than say an online global business, for whom technology may be the top concern.

Spend at absolute minimum a half-day, or one or two full days if you can, researching the enterprise and its operating environment. Depending on the enterprise you may be able to do this entirely online or otherwise in a local library. You may want to look at:

media coverage – most recent press stories and general articles
you tube and vimeo clips
linked in groups
what twitter says about the enterprise and sector
who blogs about it
