About the Author

 

E. James Baesler, Ph.D., is Professor of Communication in the Department of Communication and Theatre Arts at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

 

His education includes a B.A. (1983) in Human Relations and Communication Studies and an M.A. in Speech Communication from San Jose State University (1985), and a Ph.D. (1991) in Communication from the University of Arizona.

 

His research over thirty years spans from social influence and nonverbal communication to religious-spiritual communication, especially an extensive prayer research agenda. Recent scholarship includes autoethnographies on Listening to the SONG of Life, Nonviolent Communication and Peace, and Dream Research Methods.

 

His published work includes the monograph Theoretical Explorations and Empirical Investigations of Communication and Prayer, and scholarly articles in academic journals, including Communication Reports, Human Communication Research, Journal of Ecumenical Studies, Journal of Communication and Religion, Journal of Media and Religion, Journal of Peace Education, Listening Education, Peace Studies Journal, The Qualitative Report, Review of Communication, and Review of Religious Research.

 

He lives in Chesapeake, Virginia, with his partner Mary Elizabeth and their two sons, Ben and Danny.
