Greetings and welcome to UVI!  

The University of the Virgin Islands prides itself in meeting students where they are when they arrive  and, through proven strategies and approaches, provide the students with tools and mindset to achieve their academic goals, and beyond.  It is with great pride that we are able to offer this foundations text that is made just for the UVI student.  Through careful choice of topics and images, there is no mistaking that when the book refers to success, it is specifically referring to the potential that resides in each UVI student.

The topics presented were culled from years of experience working with students, and research-based approaches that have proven effective with first year students.  Mr. Capriola leans heavily of his years of successful offering of the UVI Freshman Development Seminar.  His deep knowledge and commitment to student success shines through.
