Contributors & Acknowledgments

This OER textbook was made possible by a generous grant awarded by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s GEER State Grant and funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The faculty of Texas Woman’s University (TWU), who were awarded this grant in 2023, formed a team to increase student access to OER and to eliminate the cost of educational materials for our corequisite “1003: Introduction to Reading & Writing” and “1013: Composition I” courses.

Revisions and additions to this textbook version were organized and written by Dr. Sierra Mendez, Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Associate Director of TWU First Year Composition, and Jennifer Conner, a rhetoric graduate student and Assistant Director of First Year Composition. Formatting and design was completed by Dr. Sierra Mendez.

Dr. Jackie Hoermann-Elliott and Dr. Kathryn Quesenbury wrote the original grant and acted as principal investigators to lead the development of these materials. They also contributed extensively to the writing, editing, and digital content creation of this project.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Maclain Scott, Assistant Director of English and Director of First Year Writing at Rocky Mountain College, for his expert review of this OER’s materials.

And, finally, we would like to thank the students whose excellent work was nominated for and included in this book.
