In Memory Of Laura Schmidt

Laura Marie, daughter of William and Martha (Cordes) Kirmse was born southeast of Alva, Oklahoma on October 31, 1913. She passed away at the Alva Share Medical Center on the 7th of December at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 7 days. She attended one year at Liberty #35 Grade School and then Zion Lutheran Grade School, and later worked for Dr. Ensor’s office in Hopeton.
Miss Kirmse was married to Roland Schmidt on August 21, 1938 at the Alva Zion Lutheran Church. To their marriage three children, Arlene, Ernest and Larry were born.
Following their marriage they lived on a farm 2 1/2 miles west of Cherokee from 1938 to 1943 then moved to a farm 4 1/2 miles south of Alva and in 1975 came to Alva to make their home at 1008 Center Street.
She was a member of the Alva Zion Lutheran Church having been baptized on November 16, 1913 and confirmed on April 10, 1927, was active in the Mary Martha Guild serving as treasurer for a number of years and was a member of the Church Quilting Group.
Mrs. Schmidt was preceded in death by her son, Larry Gene, on August 29, 1979; a daughter-in-law, Karen Lynn on June 29, 1995; her parents; a sister, Edna and a brother, Alvin.
Laura is survived by her husband, Roland, of the home in Alva; a daughter, Arlene Manning of Lawrence, Kansas and a son, Ernest of Alva; five grandchildren and their spouses, Pam and Rick Dilbeck of Yakima, Washing-ton, Mark Schmidt of Alva, Curt and Tina Schmidt of Perkins, Oklahoma, Mike Manning of Joplin, Missouri and Jay Manning of Lawrence, Kansas, two great grandchildren, Caylie and Corbin Schmidt of Perkins. She is also survived by two sisters and their husbands, Ella and Gilbert Krueger, Norma and Bud Rauh; a brother and his wife, Julius and Hildegard Kirmse all of Alva; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
