In Memory of Roland F. Schmidt

Roland F., son of Sarah (Mueller) and Ernst Schmidt, was born on September 8,1911 near Altenburg, Missouri. He passed away suddenly at his home in Alva on the 10th of July at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 2 days. He attended the Trinity Lutheran Grade School at Altenburg in Perry County, Missouri. In 1929 he went to Nebraska for four years and in 1934 Came to Alva.
Roland was married to Laura Helen Marie Kirmse on August 21,1938 at the Alva Zion Lutheran Church. To their marriage three children, Arlene, Ernest, and Larry were born. Mrs. Schmidt passed away on December 7,1995.
Following their marriage they lived on a farm two and a half miles West of Cherokee. In 1943 they moved to a farm four and half miles south of Alva where they farmed and did custom harvesting. In 1975 they moved to Alva to make their home.
He was a member of the Alva Zion Lutheran Church having been baptized on September 17, 1911 and confirmed in 1926 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, Missouri. He has served in the Alva church as an Elder, Treasurer and served on other church boards and was in charge of the Lutheran Cemetery from 1983 to 1994.
Mr. Schmidt was preceded in death by a son, Larry, on August 29,1979, a daughter-in-law, Karen Lynn on June 29,1995, his parents; a sister and three brothers.
Roland is survived by his daughter, Arlene Manning of Lawrence, Kansas, his son Ernest and his financee Sally both of Alva. Five grand-children and their spouses. Pam and Rick Dil-beck of Yakima, Washington, Mark Schmidt of Burlington, Curt and Tina Schmidt of Stillwater, Mike and Sharla Manning of Rogers, Arkansas and Jay Manning of Lawrence, Kansas. Three great grand children, Ryan Dilbeck, Caylie and Corbin Schmidt. Also a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
