This project was made possible by the support of faculty and staff at Goodwin University. Ashika Brinkley, former Program Director of Public Health and Health and Natural Sciences, and Paula Dowd, Dean of the School of Health Sciences and Nursing, advocated for an OER text aligned with the course outcomes and objectives of our Human Biology class. This led to course releases that provided the time necessary to complete the book. Dr. Marcie Stock provided advice on content coverage, while Dr. Vita Vernace provided proofreading and checked content.
The cover image, entitled “Diagrammatic Representation of the Circulation through the Heart and Body,” comes from Anatomy, Physiology and Hygiene by Jerome Walker (Boston: Allyn and Bacon, 1900; Public Domain). Most images in this book are in the public domain or carry Creative Commons licenses. There are exceptions, however, and these are clearly noted in image captions. All images by fine artists are used by permission, are not openly licensed, and so may not be reused without first obtaining permission from the artists directly. Copyrights for these images and artists’ contact information are available in the caption for such images. I personally thank all of them for contributing to the quality of this text. Please consider supporting their elegant and evocative art.
This textbook is a “remix” of several different Open Educational Resources (OER) with additional original text. All additional material written by Cindy Seiwert carries a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 4.0 license.

- Anatomy & Physiology (Open + Free) was created by the Community College-Open Learning Initiative (CC-OLI) Project. Built with funding provided by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Lumia Foundation, the CC-OLI project brought together teams of community college faculty content experts, learning scientists, human-computer interaction experts, and software engineers to make the best use of multidisciplinary knowledge for designing effective learning environments. The group also partnered with Words & Numbers through Connexions® for some of the content for the course.
