Open Educational Resources (OER) is the future of education. (OER) offers opportunities for faculty to take complete control of the content in their courses. Billions of dollars in textbooks costs are being reduced for students across the nation in higher education alone. With OER being linked to better performance in the classroom, higher retention, and completion rates; students and universities stand to benefit greatly. As an instructional designer you must be prepared to assist in the research and development of courses that are OER based. You may also be involved in committees managing the initiative at your university.
