Review: Beat, Rhythm, and Meter

1. Beat

An equal subdivision of time:

 

2. Meter

Regularized accents over a beat. For example, a triple meter where every third beat is accented:

 

3. Rhythm

Arrangement of musical sounds by duration:

 

A barline indicates that the next beat is strong/accented and so accent marks (>) are not needed. The meter is written in the first measure, after the key signature.
