27 Wrapping Up

As we’ve discussed at length here, genres are important to review and evaluate as writers and communicators because they help us find the most effective ways to relate to our audiences and accomplish our purposes as they vary from genre to genre. Every genre comes with certain reader expectations that the author must attend to.

Now that we’ve arrived at the end of the chapter, we can see the diverse range of genres and corollary genres that exist inside and outside of college writing, which can be a bit intimidating. Instead of freezing at the sight of a writing prompt, this chapter should help you understand why you would choose to write in different genres and how you can succeed in that genre.
