22 Tips and Tricks for Working in Other Platforms

The previous chapter provided a comprehensive collection of tips and tricks to guide you through the process of building an online course using the Canvas: Free for Teachers (Instructure, 2022) platform. As noted, I focused on this platform because it has an open, easily accessible option for students and educators to use to create their own courses outside of an institution’s access restrictions – making it an excellent choice for developing and testing an instructional design project. But, participants in some of my instructional design courses have opted to use different platforms to hone their ID skills in environments they will be using in their professional lives. It is not possible for me to provide a comprehensive collection of resources for every learning management system that you may encounter. But, here, I have included links to some resources I have created and curated in recent years related to two platforms I have frequently used – Moodle (n.d.) and Microsoft Teams (2022).

Moodle Tips and Tricks for Educators

The following is a playlist of videos that I created for Cape Breton University as we transitioned to online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. While they do not follow the same sequential process of building an online course as my Creating Your Own Courses Canvas series, they should prove useful to anyone working in the Moodle LMS for their instructional design projects.
