3.7 Five HTML Tips Every Blogger Should Know

HTML can be a very fun and easy way to get into programming. It was the way my father tried to get me into programming when I was in elementary school. It didn’t exactly work out the way he had hoped, but it still gave me a cool skill that is sometimes helpful. One thing I noticed while looking at articles, is that all of them are looking at html as if we are all computer science majors, when a lot of web publishers and bloggers also use html specifically. After a bit of searching I found Mellissa Culbertson’s blog on “5 HTML TIPS EVERY BLOGGER SHOULD KNOW” which, as the title states, gives bloggers 5 must know tips with html.

  1. CURLY QUOTATION MARKS MESS UP YOUR CODE.

This first tip is certainly a more technical one, but a very important and frustrating one to deal with. As I child I remember not being able to understand why my code wasn’t working, only for my dad to remind me, the “curly quotation marks” break your code. The “straight quotation marks” are for coding.

    2. PROPORTIONALLY RESIZE YOUR IMAGES WITH EASE

Probably one of the most useful tips she gives is how to resize images to better fit your blog page. As a blogger, finding an image that fits your article perfectly, but not being the right size is incredibly frustrating, and taking the image into an editor and modifying it can be tiresome and mess up the image quality.

     3. MAKE A CLICKABLE IMAGE IN YOUR SIDEBAR.

This tip is more of a vanity thing than incredibly useful. Having a head shot that links your your about me, or social media icons that link to the corresponding website just helps to make your page look better and professional.

     4. CHECK FOR <DIV> TAGS IF YOUR POST FORMATTING IS WONKY

This is another of the more technical tips that’s really helpful with formatting your blog posts.

      5. MAKE A HYPERLINK TO AN EMAIL ADDRESS

This is just a good idea to better make your contact info accessible.

Altogether this article give some incredibly useful tips for bloggers, and she explains them very well and in a beginner friendly manner.

I also found a super helpful video that went into more general information on HTML, be warned, it’s over an hour long.
