Juan Williams: Don’t rule out impeaching Trump

Best case scenario actually from the NY Post

Her caveats — the need for “compelling and overwhelming” facts — are in the eye of the beholder. Rabid Dems such as Jerry Nadler and Adam Schiff already said Trump committed crimes and collusion.

Now that they run the House, they are using explosive hearings to convince the public they have the goods on Trump. The Michael Cohen circus was the first step, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report will be another.

As for Pelosi’s test of “bipartisan” support, that will come if the hearings convince the public Trump must go. In that case, enough GOP senators likely would join Dems in forcing his removal.

So in effect, Pelosi didn’t say no to impeachment. She just clarified the conditions under which she’ll say yes.

The subject of this book is the GOP conspiracy to improperly influence elections-it goes back to Nixon-Thiue 1968. If we fail to impeach Trump-regardless of conviction no conviction-our message to GOP election riggers, obstructers, and colluders is-it’s no big deal, it’s not like we’re going to impeach you over it-that’s be ‘too disruptive’ to expect you to follow the same rules the rest of us must.

If impeachment happens it will be 2020 and probably more in the middle than the beginning of the year-as I’ve argued perhaps the closer to the election the better.

What about a public backlash? It depends on what level of support there is at that time for impeachment. But no matter what if we don’t impeach Trump for rigging an American election that’s an awful precedent that won’t be washed away even if you beat Trump in 2020-and maybe the base is demoralized and he wins again.
