Often an activist against sexism, racism or for gun control, climate change, etc will preface their comments by declaring ‘this is not a partisan issue.’

But just so-considering that only one of the two major parties is even in principle supportive of these fights it really actually is a partisan issue. The declarations to the contrary are at best aspirational but after a while they become sort of like hands on the chalk board as they are so obviously untrue.

In some ways the Democrats are second class citizens in American politics just as women are second class citizens in American life a la Jess Zimmerman.

A similar thing has happened in the fight against sexual harassment-many back off as it would mean a fight against most of the Republican party
