The bill is the most recent proposal from New York lawmakers trying to cast light on the president’s personal finances and business dealings, but it could also open the Democratic majorities in the Legislature to charges of politicizing state law to embarrass the president ahead of his expected re-election campaign.

Speaking as one NY Democrat I’m prepared to, uh, take that risk and I suspect many of my fellow NY Dems would agree with me. After Trump’s illegitimate ‘win’ in November, 2016 I walked up and down the street around Trump Tower with a t-shirt with the caption-Donald Trump is a sexual predator and he’s not my President-and literally 100 people wanted to take a picture with me and my buddy Kev.

You may be shocked to learn ‘President Trump’ is not so popular in NYC. Forget 9 in 10 despise him, more like 99 in 100.

I mean what does the NYT writer think-NY Dems are all going to shriek ‘eek, it makes us look like we’re trying to hurt ‘President Trump’ politically!’

I mean feature not bug, feature not bug.

To be sure this is one of the major problems with the MSM-they are so brainwashed by the GOP talking points. By definition Trump’s tax returns-and all his other scandals, emoluments, Jared Kushner, the Mueller Report-should be politicized. After all, the DOJ has decided he’s above the law and can’t be indicted-the only solution to Trump’s subversion of democracy is political.

Two things-Silver didn’t actually write the piece and then well.. Ok let’s just quote it:

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Swalwell hasn’t gotten a lot of attention as a potential presidential candidate. Only four pollsters have included him in early 2020 polls, and he has garnered only 0 or 1 percent in them. He has yet to bag any major endorsements. But Swalwell is reasonably adept at drawing attention to himself — he is a prolific user of social media and is a frequent guest on cable news shows, where he has used special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election to criticize Trump (even after Attorney General William Barr wrote a letter to Congress saying that the president’s campaign was not involved).

I mean wow-that’s got to be the worst MSM description of the Barr Letter yet and that’s really saying something-as the (not so)SmartSet’s analysis of the Barr Letter has been just awful.  The relevant half sentence of Mueller’s Barr was actually confident enough to quote did not say anything like ‘Trump was not involved’-just that he was unable to establish a criminal conspiracy with Russia beyond a reasonable doubt-ie, beyond 90% confidence. That’s far from saying ‘Trump’s campaign was in no way involved with Russian interference-uh, Russia, if you’re listening.

Over the past few months, he has gotten roughly as much cable news coverage as Julian Castro or Tulsi Gabbard has, according to an analysis of the relative amount of coverage each candidate got on CNN, Fox News and MSNBC based on data from the TV News Archive. That’s not bad for someone who wasn’t a presidential candidate at the time, but it’s still many times less than the coverage received by the top-tier candidates.

Among my friends and followers on Democratic Twitter, Swalwell is actually very popular-quite the opposite of Tulsi Gabbard.
