Just get over it, liberal snowflake!
We’ve been here before. This was the attitude of the GOP-and the media-in 2001 as well. Yes the Republican Supreme Court inappropriately and permanently shutdown the Florida recount-after Roger Stone and his GOP friends shut it down temporarily via the Brooks Brothers riots-more on this in (Chapter A)-but hey, that was a long time ago. Just get over it.
Get over a Presidential election unfairly decided. Like Marx said history repeats itself as farce-and we are back here again. In 2000 as in 2016 the GOP ‘winner’ got fewer votes and won via, to paraphrase Voltaire, the barbarous relic called the electoral college. But while Gore won by 500,000 votes, Clinton won by 3 million.
And at least there wasn’t Russian interference-and FBI interference in 2000.
Still, despite the GOP’s gloating ‘Just get over it liberals, you lost’-sure, but not legitimately-and the media’s ‘moving on’ truthfully I never got over it and this was true for many Americans. One of our core beliefs-in the legitimacy of our political process had been shaken. Harry Reid as we see in (Chapter A) hated W so much he couldn’t stand to be in the same room as him and I felt the same way-every time his face was on the tv screen it was painful just to be subjected to this imposter, this fraud.
Who knew back then what was coming, that our post 2016 selves could have told us back then that you ain’t seen nothing yet?
But 2016 is different as no one has forgotten about what happened in the 2016 election-at least regarding Russian interference and possible Trump campaign collusion-though it’s true, the other Watergate 2,0 scandal, Comeygate-where the Trump campaign quite possibly colluded with rogue anti Clinton pro Trump agents-has hitherto been unjustifiably ignored.
We have multiple federal investigations into Trump-Russia. Jerrold Nadler has resolved for his House Judiciary Committee to investigate the leaks of the rogue anti Clinton pro Trump FBI agents in October, 2016 and hopefully this will be just the start of investigating Comeygate-in the Comeygate part of this book we look at the many problems of that very careless investigation, starting from the fact that it was not legitimately predicated in the first place-there was never adequate probable cause.
Often you hear that we need to investigate Trump-Russia to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Even Adam Schiff tends to lead with this premise-and even the former members of the Clinton campaign tend to focus here. But the importance of Russiagate-and Comeygate-is not only prospective but retrospective.
Indeed, part of being prospective-and looking forward and moving on-is first doing the retrospective work of figuring out exactly what happened and making sure that all guilty parties are punished to the full extent of the law-and those who may have committed acts that are not strictly illegal but highly corrupt and unethical should be publicly censured and socially sanctioned with appropriate severity.
We certainly should aspire to make sure that all those involved truly ‘never eat lunch in this town again’-the town in question being Washington DC.
Why is it necessary to look to the past first? Because while we need to ensure it doesn’t happen again-it being both Russian interference and influence in our elections and FBI interference and influence in our election-we also need to reassure the millions of Americans who’s faith in our democratic, electoral process is-rightly-shaken because of Russiagate and Comeygate, but also regarding voter suppression, gerrymandering-and the still open sores from what happened in 2000.
UPDATE: But as the debate among the House Democrats on wether or not to impeach this illegitimate ‘President’ has unfolded-what has become clear is that the the need to totally account for what was done and hold all those responsible accountable-and the need to make sure it never happens again are related-by not impeaching Trump despite his many impeachable offenses-emoluments, obstruct of justice, abuse of power-usurping Congress’ role on multiple occasions, and first of all his illegitimacy-is related to the need to make sure it never happens again. If Trump isn’t impeached it normalizes everything he’s done and the next GOP dirty trickster to run for President will try all his tricks and more-why not if there are absolutely no consequences? This is Nietzsche’s party of a bad conscience-so simply assuming the GOP will suddenly decide to do the right thing because its’ the right thing is a fool’s errand.
End of UPDATE
One cause that I’d love to see both Hillary Clinton and Al Gore take up is a crusade to end the electoral college.
But the reality is: I’m a Hillary Clinton supporter-I’m #StillWithHer and always will be-even though she’ll likely never run for anything again-though if she did, I’d vote for her any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
But no one is over her or the election. Why else did Corey Lewandowski slip and refer to ‘the lies and evasions of the Clinton Administration?’
Despite all the talk of ‘getting over it’ there’s a sense that no one has gotten over her-not her haters and not those of us who are #StillWithHer and #AlwaysWithHer
Trump never stops talking and tweeting about her-Lindsay Graham is still investigating her-as outrageous as it is that he’s investigating a public citizen. The media is still obsessed with demonizing her-their new trick is to pretend to be still outraged over Monica Lewinsky-many seem to think that Bill should retroactively somehow ‘resign’ today-talk about not being able to ‘get over it!’
FN: Meanwhile Trump who has been accused of sexual misconduct and assault over 20 times-the MSM has mostly buried this even allegations of rape, yet no one in the MSM has demanded he resign-outraged editorials demanding Clinton resign were a cottage industry after Monica Lewinsky. Find Eric Boehlert link Mike.
That they are hypocrites who don’t give a fig about sexual assault and harassment is demonstrated by the fact that they don’t demand that ‘President Trump’ or ‘Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’-or for that matter ‘Justice Clarence Thomas’ resign.
So the reality is that no one is over the 2016 election-why else does Trump keep lying about his ‘record electoral college win?’ and lying about ‘3 to 5 million’ illegal voters?
To move on we will need clarity about what happened in the recent past. Anyone who demands that ‘we get over it’ without closure and accountability is part of the problem. As noted in (Chapter A) we’ve tried ‘getting over it’, ‘looking forwards not backwards’ and ‘allowing the country to heal’ without closure or accountability too many times-Gerald Ford’s pardoning of Nixon in 1974, Bush’s appalling pardon of Casper Weinberger and 5 other Iran-Contra witnesses in 1992-Bill Clinton and the Democrats in 1993 ‘moving on’ from the investigation into Reagan-Iran collusion, only to give the GOP room to open up fake scandals into Whitewater, Travelgate-and even the Clinton’s Christmas list; then in 2009 Obama and the Dem Congressional leadership ‘moved on’ from the Bush-Cheney era crimes. In every case, these moves to ‘heal’ without accountability were not actually popular with the country and in every case they only made things worse. President Ford’s defeat was a clear rebuke by the voters of his self serving and partisan pardon; both Clinton and Obama were ‘thanked’ by the voters with ‘shellackings’ in the following off year mid terms.
If we really want to heal this time we had better get it right. The Democrats have one more chance as the country has elected them by historical margins-larger even than the Watergate Congress of 1974. But if they drop the ball this time, even a confirmed a Democratic loyalist like me won’t advocate for their brand in the future and few will.
UPDATE: Regarding prevention-making sure it never happens again-and accounting for what happened and holding those responsible accountable-as the debate among the House Democrats on wether or not to impeach this illegitimate ‘President’ has unfolded-what has become clear is that the the need to totally account for what was done and hold all those responsible accountable-and the need to make sure it never happens again are related-by not impeaching Trump despite his many impeachable offenses-emoluments, obstruct of justice, abuse of power-usurping Congress’ role on multiple occasions, and first of all his illegitimacy-is related to the need to make sure it never happens again. This is Nietzsche’s party of a bad conscience-so simply assuming the GOP will suddenly decide to do the right thing because its’ the right thing is a fool’s errand.
There is now some reason to hope the Democrats are finally getting serious.
As my colleagues point out in @playbookplus today, the reason this story matters is if the Judiciary Committee really does set the formal parameters of impeachment proceedings it’ll be hard to stop a moving train >>> pic.twitter.com/dTD9qagj2a

The reason this is unlikely: Any single lawmaker could offer these Judiciary-approved articles of impeachment on the floor of the House as a privileged resolution — forcing a vote.
If articles pass out of committee, it's hard to believe this wouldn't happen. https://t.co/VEpjZyk2xQ
